Scripture to Pray for National Day of Prayer

My heart is so encouraged that our president made today National Day of Prayer and that he recognizes our need for help from on High. Let's follow in his footsteps today by humbling ourselves under God's mighty hand and praying for the world in this time of uncertainty and crisis. Remember, the effective fervent prayers of the righteous avail much! (James 5:16) Here are some scriptures suggestions to pray today for the healing of our world:

1.) Praise God for who He is. Pray with a humble heart. Ask God to search you and know you and reveal any offensive way in you so that you may repent and your prayers may be unhindered by sin.

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

1 Peter 5:6-7

2.) Pray that God would forgive our nation for our sin and heal our land.

They forgot the God who saved them, who had done great things in Egypt, miracles in the land of Ham and awesome deeds by the Red Sea. So he said he would destroy them—had not Moses, his chosen one stood in the breach before him to keep his wrath from destroying them.

Psalm 106:21-23

3.) Pray that we as a nation would turn from evil and serve Jesus Christ. Pray that God would bless our food and water, and take sickness from among us.

You shall serve the Lord your God, and he will bless your bread and your water, and I will take sickness away from among you.

Exodus 23:25

4.) Pray that God would give us humble hearts and show us his mercy.

If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

2 Chronicles 7:14

5.) Pray that God would soften hearts around the world and save souls.

And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.

Ezekiel 36:26

6.) Pray that God would give all of us ears to hear him. Pray that God would remove the blinders from anyone who has not believed in His son. Pray that He would give them ears to hear and eyes to see Him for who he is, and a soft, willing heart to accept Jesus Christ as Lord.

For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John, and if you are willing to accept it, he is Elijah who is to come. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

Matthew 11:13-15

7.) Thank God that His patience means salvation.

Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace. And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him,

2 Peter 3:14-15

8.) Ask for a hedge of protection to be placed around our nation.

You have always put a wall of protection around him and his home and his property. You have made him prosper in everything he does. Look how rich he is!

Job 1:10

9.) Pray that God would keep our nation from rebellion, that we would have a deep reverence for God and respect for authority.

Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.

Romans 13:1

10.)  Pray for all those in leadership and authority, that they would know the Lord Jesus and be given His sufficent grace for each moment and decision they must make.

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.

1 Timothy 2:1-2
