Bible Verses for Encouragement

The Lord blesses His people with peace

God is our refuge

Several of us in my family were feeling incredibly anxious about the coronavirus and the state of turmoil our world is currently in. As we heard bleak update after bleak update from the news, we stressed and panicked and stocked our pantries with food and water. But then something amazing happened. One of us got a good night of sleep, woke a little early to meet with the Lord and found hope and assurance in His word. That family member sent out a group text with Romans 8:31-37 in it. Then, another family member suggested that we claim the promises of scripture together and keep the chat going. So, one by one, each person on the group chat shared scriptures and biblical encouragement.

We had members of the family from all ages and all walks of life sharing God’s word. There was a Godly middle schooler who is set apart like a rare treasure among a generation of troubled youth, a passionate college student who is confident in the God he serves, a wise teacher who has been walking steadily with the Lord since her childhood and a police officer who is a workman unashamed (2 Timothy 2:15).

There was a stay at home mom who seeks to worship the Lord while washing dishes,  changing diapers and settling squabbles between preschoolers, a middle-aged carpenter who has spent much of his life wrestling with his faith and a kind-hearted grandmother who has been the family's fervent prayer warrior for years. There was a tenacious couple who put feet to their faith years ago when they chose to love like Jesus and internationally adopt. And, last but not least, a four year old full of innocence who didn't know about the news headlines, but had something to say about God's faithfulness all the same.

All of us are so very different and at such different places in our walks with God and yet, in a time of crisis we came together via modern technology and declared the word of God together. As we reminded each other of the truth, faith triumphed and fear dissolved.

Below I am sharing with you the scriptures we shared with one another. Scriptures on peace, faith, fear, anxiety, healing, hope and truth. My prayer is that you will claim these for yourself, out loud and in prayer. That you will fill your mind with God’s truth and block out anything that is not true, noble and worthy of praise. And that you will start a thread of truth of your own with the people in your inner circle. Send a text, email, or make a social media post of a scripture that encourages you today!

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5

Worship the Lord your God and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take sickness from among you. Exodus 23:25

When you call on me, when you come and pray to me, I’ll listen. Jeremiah 29:12

The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still. Exodus 14:14

Let the beloved of the Lord rest secured in him, for he shields him all day long, and the one the Lord loves rests between his shoulders. Deuteronomy 33:12

Which he will bring about at the proper time. He who is blessed and only sovereign, the king of kings and lord of lords. 1 Timothy 6:15

The Lord gives strength to his people, the Lord blesses his people with peace. Psalm 29:11

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear though the earth gives way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. Psalm 46:1-3

At the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:10-11

Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man. Luke 21:34-36

Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion. Hebrews 3:15

Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Romans 10:13

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6:34

You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Isaiah 26:3

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. Romans 8:31-37

The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace. Psalm 29:11

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16
